Jeggings are a popular wardrobe staple for tweens and teens, and even small children, that can be worn a number of ways to suit all ages and sizes.

Jeggings are leggings that are usually heavier and made of denim or a denim like material. For those who aren't quite sure how to wear them, here are a few tips that are worth trying.

Jeggings With Sweater Dresses

Sweater dresses are as popular as jeggings at the moment, and luckily the two styles go quite well together. If you aren't comfortable with the snugness of jeggings or don't want to bring attention to your behind, try out a pair of jeggings with a longer sweater dress. Macy's currently has a number of lightweight short sleeved sweater dresses that can be worn with a long sleeve under or sweater over during winter and without in the spring and fall. If you choose a solid colored sweater dress, try out a the bleached jeggings at Macy's which kind of look like a rough print.

Shoes for Jeggings

The great thing about jeggings is they're versatile and can be worn in all season. Zappos carries every kind of shoe a person would ever need for a pair of jeggings.

In winter, tuck the jeggings into warm, fuzzy boots or they can be worn with pumps and ballet style flats. In summer, you can try them out with almost any sandal and even flip flops. If you are short, you may want to wear jeggings with heels to elongate your legs. Jeggings are also commonly worn with long, knee high boots and short ankle boots as well.

Younger children often wear jeggings with the skater type shoes like Vans and other sporty, casual shoes.

Tunic Tops and Accessories

Besides sweater dresses and long sweaters, jeggings go well with dressy tunic tops. If you prefer to go casual, you can pair them with a long graphic tee.

If you're wearing jeggings, the accessories will mostly go with the top. Try out long scarves or big, bold necklaces, depending upon the occasion. Big totes and purses also seem to go well with outfits that include jeggings.

Additional Tips for Wearing Jeggings

  • Since jeggings are most often denim, they won't be as skin tight as leggings. If you are comfortable, it isn't necessary to cover your behind entirely or wear them exclusively with tops that go to your thighs. Jeggings are just as suitable for short tops or tucked in tops.
  • Make sure you choose the right size. If you end up with jeggings that are too small, it will appear as though you've squished everything into the pants and will be extremely uncomfortable. You want them to be nearly as comfortable as wearing your favorite jeans.
  • Pay attention to length. If you are short, look for jeggings in petite sizes. Unless you plan on wearing them only tucked into boots, you do not want a bunch of material scrunched up at your ankles.
  • Jeggings are not exclusively for skinny body types. If you happen to be larger or even a plus size, you can still find jeggings that will fit. Jeggings are available for nearly all sizes and body types.

It may be a good idea if you aren't familiar with jeggings to try them on and make sure you're comfortable in them. This will also give you a good idea of which sizes and styles you prefer when shopping.
